Frequently asked

Which BCP does it follow?

The 1979 Book of Common Prayer of the Episcopal Church: its Daily Offices, its calendar and its Daily Office Lectionary, in Rite One and Rite Two.

Is it free?

Yes, all of it: no ads, no subscriptions and nothing to unlock. It is made by one person — about the app and why it was made. If it has become part of your prayer and you would like to help keep it free, you can buy me a coffee at buymeacoffee.com/dailyofficeapp.

Does it need an internet connection?

No. Every word of every office, and the reading voice, is on your device, so it works the same in airplane mode. Only iCloud sync uses the network, in the background, if you turn it on.

Do you collect any data about me?

No. There is no account, no analytics and no tracking. If you turn on iCloud, your prayer list (end-to-end encrypted) and settings sync through your own iCloud account, which I cannot see — see the Privacy Policy.

Which Bible translation does it use for the readings?

The psalms are the BCP’s own Psalter, or Coverdale’s from the 1662 Prayer Book if you prefer it. The lessons are read in the New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition (NRSVue), with the King James Version as a second choice in Customize the Liturgy.

Can I pray the office for a different day?

Yes. Tap the title and date at the head of the office, or use Go to, to open any office on any date in any year.

Is it available for Android or Windows?

Not at present. But anyone with the app can share the day’s office as a PDF; choose For Phones and a friend can pray it on any phone, Android included.

Is this an official publication of the Episcopal Church?

No. Daily Office is an independent app made by one person for daily prayer, not published or endorsed by the Episcopal Church or Church Publishing Incorporated.

I think a reading or a rubric is wrong. What should I do?
