How can I help?
Answers to common questions, how to get the most from the app, and how to reach a person.
Write to me
The quickest way is from inside the app: open Settings and choose Send Feedback under Links & Feedback (on a Mac, it is also in the Help menu). It opens a message in Mail with the office, rite, date and your settings already filled in below your own words — nothing is sent until you send it.
Or write directly. I read every message.

Reporting an error in the office
The BCP is the authority. If a psalm, lesson, collect or rubric in the app differs from the printed 1979 Book of Common Prayer for that day, please tell me — it will be checked against the BCP and corrected.
It helps to include:
- the office (Morning Prayer, Noonday Prayer, Evening Prayer or Compline), the rite, and the date;
- what the app shows, and what you expected — with the BCP’s page number if you have it;
- your choices in Settings, especially Third Lesson and Parish Patron.
Send Feedback in the app fills in all of this for you.
Getting started
- Just read from the top. The psalms, readings, collects and canticles are already in their places — there is nothing to look up.
- Make your choices once. In Settings, choose your rite, then Customize the Liturgy for the options the BCP leaves to the Officiant, under the BCP’s own headings: how the office begins, the Confession and Absolution, the Invitatory and its antiphon, the psalms and the Psalter, the readings and canticles, the Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, the Suffrages and the Great Litany. Opened over Morning or Evening Prayer, it puts the other office’s choices at the foot. The app keeps them every day.
- Another day or office. Tap the title and date at the head of the office — or choose Go to — to pick any office on any date.
- Help is built in. Help in the app covers every setting, written for the device you are using.
The office I expected didn’t open
Settings → Opens On decides which office the app opens on:
- The Time of Day opens each office at its hour: by standard, Morning Prayer from 3 a.m., Noonday Prayer from 11 a.m., Evening Prayer from 2 p.m. and Compline from 8 p.m. Settings → Office Hours sets your own.
- Where I Left Off opens the last office you read, on today’s date.
An office or day you choose yourself is kept for half an hour. Compline after midnight, until your Morning Prayer hour, belongs to the night before, so Saturday’s Compline keeps its own collect at one in the morning.
The readings look different from what I expected
- Readings. Three readings are appointed each day, and the BCP gives three ways to use them (p. 934). All Three at Each Office is for praying once a day. Two Morning, One Evening reads two in the morning and one in the evening. Two at Each Office adds the other year’s Old Testament reading first at Evening Prayer.
- Psalms. As Appointed reads the lectionary’s psalms; 30-Day Cycle reads the whole Psalter through each month, as the BCP divides it. Psalter chooses the BCP’s words or Coverdale’s (1662).
- Canticles. As Suggested follows the BCP’s table for the day (pp. 144–145); The Traditional Pair sings the Te Deum and the Benedictus in the morning and the Magnificat and the Nunc dimittis in the evening, one after each reading.
- Holy Days. A Holy Day brings its own psalms, readings and collect, and some feasts begin the evening before with readings for the eve.
- Parish Patron. If you’ve chosen one, the eve of that feast takes the readings the BCP provides for it (p. 1001).
- Transferred feasts. A feast that falls on a greater day is moved as the BCP moves it.
- Bracketed psalms. Where the lectionary offers a choice of psalms, the app reads the one the BCP gives as the alternative to the bracketed psalm.
Changing how the page looks
The Aa button opens Themes & Settings, and every change shows as you make it:
- Text size — the two A buttons.
- Page Turn — Slide, Curl, Fast Fade, or Scroll for one continuous column.
- Appearance — Light, Dark, or Match Device.
- Themes — twelve, in three rows, each set in its own typefaces: Serif (Original, Paper, Quiet and Elegant), Mixed (Calm, Focus, Modern and Classic) and Sans (Bold, Gentle, Clear and Warm). Customize Theme changes the typefaces of the words and the headings, the headings’ size, bold text, line, character and word spacing and margins, and Save as New Theme… keeps your version.
- Verse numbers — for the psalms and the readings, and readings as verses or paragraphs, in Settings.
- Drop Capital and Responses — a theme’s large red first letter on or off, and the People’s words as printed, in bold or in italic.
Devotions and the meditation timer
- Beside the office. In Customize the Liturgy, under Devotions: the Angelus before or after Morning, Noonday and Evening Prayer; the Marian anthem of the season after Evening Prayer or Compline, in English or Latin; and Lancelot Andrewes’s prayers for the day after Morning Prayer and his evening prayers after Compline. Each also has a page of its own: in Go to, choose The Great Litany and More. None is the BCP’s, and each names its source.
- The Meditation Timer. In Go to: a length of five to thirty minutes and one of twelve tones, sounded at the start and again at the end. It keeps time behind a locked screen, and Pause holds it.
Hearing the office read aloud
The reading voice is optional. It reads the office aloud, marking the words in yellow as it reads and turning the pages with it.
- Starting it. Tap Listen (the headphones). The voice comes with the app and runs entirely on your device, with or without a connection; there is nothing to download.
- Read to Me or Say It Together. Read to Me reads the office to you, keeping the silences the BCP asks for. In Say It Together the voice is the Officiant and you say the People’s lines, which are shown at the foot of the screen.
- Choosing and adjusting. Settings → Voice has twelve voices, six women’s and six men’s. Tap the gear beside a voice to set its Pace, Pauses, Expression, Pitch and Room, tap Preview to hear it, and Save to keep it. Highlight turns the yellow marking off.

Sharing the office as a PDF
On iPhone, iPad and Mac, the share button makes a PDF of the office you are reading, with the copyright notice for its scripture on its last page. Choose its page:
- For Printing — a US Letter page, for a bulletin or a sheet to pray from in a pew.
- For Phones — a page the shape of a phone’s screen, read without zooming. Send it to someone praying with you who doesn’t have the app; it opens on any phone, Android included.
Apple TV and Apple Vision Pro
Apple TV. Swipe on the Siri Remote to move through the office, or click down or up to move a screenful at a time. Click right to go on to the next section and left to go back one; while the voice reads, it moves with you. Press Back to open the sidebar — the offices and devotions, the other services, Go to, Prayers, the Timer, Themes, Settings and Help. To send feedback from Apple TV, write to feedback@dailyofficeapp.com.
Apple Vision Pro. Look toward the bottom of the window to scroll on, or pinch and drag. The buttons beside the window are yours to arrange in Settings → Toolbar, each In the Bar or In Overflow, and Overflow ends the bar with Settings; choose the edge they sit on in Settings, under The Window.

English. Daily Office sets the 1979 Book of Common Prayer as it is printed in English, and the app itself — its menus, Settings and Help — is in English too.
Beta testers
If you are testing Daily Office through TestFlight, you can also send feedback from TestFlight itself: take a screenshot in the app and tap Share Beta Feedback, or open the TestFlight app and choose Send Beta Feedback. Crash reports you choose to share arrive the same way.
